OpenPGP order chat

Cancoin

During a buy or sell order, you will need to communicate with your trading partner to exchange sensitive information such as payment or personal details. To facilitate this, every order made in the Marketplace includes an OpenPGP encrypted chat interface right in the order, so you can send details to your trading partner without worrying.

When you created your Cancoin account and generated your 12-word mnemonic, you also generated OpenPGP public and private keys. Your private key was then encrypted with your 12-word mnemonic in your browser, and saved in it's encrypted state to Cancoin servers. That means the same high level security that secures your bitcoins also secures your order chat histories- the 12-word mnemonic that only you know.

Because of this, you may have to unlock your order chat fro time-to-time.

If you want to unlock your order chat:

  1. Login to your account and navigate to Account Settings > Order Chat
  2. Click 'Unlock Chat'
  3. Enter your 12-word mnemonic and click 'encrypt'

If you want to lock your order chat:

  1. Login to your account and navigate to Account Settings > Order Chat
  2. Click 'Lock Chat'

About OpenPGP Encryption

OpenPGP is a non-proprietary protocol for encrypting email communication using public key cryptography. It is based on the original PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) software. The OpenPGP protocol defines standard formats for encrypted messages, signatures, and certificates for exchanging public keys.

Beginning in 1997, the OpenPGP Working Group was formed in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to define this standard that had formerly been a proprietary product since 1991. Over the past decade, PGP, and later OpenPGP, has become the standard for nearly all of the world’s encrypted email.

As an IETF Proposed Standard RFC 4880, OpenPGP can be implemented by any company without paying any licensing fees to anyone.
